Custom directory · United States
Robert wanted a straightforward way to find nearby golf courses or research courses before a trip, without paid placements taking over the results.
InfoStar built the mobile-friendly public directory, its database, sponsored listing options, and the administrative system used to maintain more than 15,000 course records.
Project details
Starting point
Other golf directories existed, but Robert wanted one that stayed focused on the practical question: which courses are near me, or near the place I plan to visit?
The directory needed broad national coverage, a simple experience on a phone, and a way for its records to keep improving after launch. Paid course options could support the platform, but they could not interfere with the usefulness of the search itself.
That required more than a website design. InfoStar planned and built the visitor experience, the course database, public correction tools, operator features, payments, and the private management system behind them.
Two sides of the directory
The public side stays centered on course discovery, while managers and owners get a direct way to improve what visitors see.
Course data
The initial challenge was identifying active courses while filtering out courses that had closed or no longer existed.
InfoStar combined current course databases with outside sources and API checks for additional information. The site also invites the public to submit an “add a course” or “update a course” request. InfoStar manages the verification and approval process for those submissions so changes do not publish automatically.
Current course databases provided the foundation for nationwide coverage.
Additional sources and APIs helped identify missing details and courses that were no longer active.
Visitors and course operators can suggest a new course or an update to an existing record.
InfoStar verifies incoming submissions and manages their approval through the administrative system.
What InfoStar built
Each layer was custom built around the same course information, so visitors, course operators, and administrators are not working from separate copies.
A mobile-friendly search experience helps visitors find courses by destination, current location, and distance.
More than 15,000 course records support standard listings, richer pages, search, and ongoing corrections.
Authorized users can manage course details, review public submissions, approve changes, and track directory activity.
Course operator options
Course managers and owners can use the built-in payment path to sponsor or expand a listing, while the directory remains focused on helping visitors find relevant courses.
The course appears within the national directory and can be found through the same location-based search as other courses.
A course can add its logo, website link, and a faster path for visitors who want to book a tee time.
A richer course page can include more details, images, and links that help a visitor evaluate the course.
Build process
Robert came to InfoStar after seeing the plumbing website built for his brother. Because it was important to work through the directory visually, Mike and Robert met in person throughout the project.
InfoStar began with wireframes and site mockups, then built the public experience and administrative system. Working demos gave Robert a way to review how the platform looked and operated while there was still time to adjust it.
That direct conversation continued alongside the project itself. Robert describes the experience as a partnership in which questions, changes, and new ideas received a prompt response.
“InfoStar rebuilt a website for my brother’s plumbing company. After seeing the great job they did, I hired them for my own project. Mike, the owner, and I met-up in person multiple times to discuss my idea. What a breath of fresh air! Mike was able to visualize the project I was wanting to create and he was able to take my ideas and create a plan to make my project come to life. Every time I had a question or an idea, Mike and his staff would genuinely listen and contact me in a timely manner to discuss them with me. As we developed my website, I had a lot changes and questions. I could just text Mike or his staff and they’d get right back to me. Their service was way above what I expected, which made it easy to work with them. Today our site is live and lists over 15,000 golf courses around the country packed full of features for course owners and the general public alike. I couldn’t have asked for a better "partner" to help bring this idea to life. Truly. Thank you Mike and the InfoStar team!”

Build timeline
The roughly 60-day project included wireframes, website mockups, front-end development, the course database, administrative tools, and demonstrations throughout the build.
The completed directory is live with more than 15,000 courses and the systems needed to search, enhance, correct, review, and maintain those listings.
